• Wuensche’s heros are George Washington and Sam Houston, both tough, disciplined managers of men who although very methodical, trusted their instincts when faced with critical decisions.
Washington was on the wrong side of the Delaware River at nightfall and wanted to attack the Hessians before dawn. He was advised by his highly experienced boatsman that it would be noon the next day before all his men could get across leaving them as sitting ducks for the waiting Hessians, nevertheless ordered “load the boats” and America was born.
Sam Houston despite an almost mutiny among his troops who wanted to stand and fight Santa Anna instead of retreating from the Alamo to the Gulf Coast, nevertheless held his ground until they reached San Jacinto, defeated the Mexican army in eleven minutes and Texas was born.
