Cain Career

Four years later, he joined Pillsbury, a holding company for an array of F&B related entities, as an executive.
•Despite the inherently challenging atmosphere for Africa-Americans at the time, Cain’s qualities shone through and he was promoted to Vice-President of Corporate Systems and Services of Pillsbury in 1981. He was soon tasked to lead the sprawling and under-performing chain of over 400 Burger King restaurants in the Philadelphia region. Within three short years, Cain managed to turn around the whole division into one of the best performing region in the country.
•His performance did not go unnoticed, as the board appointed him President and CEO of their subsidiary, the almost bankrupt Godfather’s Pizza chain in 1986. Cain accepted the challenge and in less than 14 months, the firm returned to profitability.
•Cain’s impressive performance at Godfather’s Pizza resulted in an invitation by the National Restaurant Association of America to join their board in 1988. Six years later, he was elected as the Chairman of the Association and in 1996, he became its permanent CEO and President. His stellar leadership of the Association raised his profile within the region, and he was soon offered the prestigious role of Chairman and board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, among others.
•Cain grew in strength from there, and has since established two firms, The New Voice and RetailDNA, firms that markets Cain’s extensive corporate, marketing and leadership experience through various self-help books, DVDs and speaking engagements.
•Today, Cain sits on the board of Hallmark, Whirpool and AGCO. He hosts his own radio talk show, WSB’s The Herman Cain Show. He contributes regularly to Fox News and several other broadcasters. He also spends time speaking on the Republican speaking circuit.
